COGNITIVE LEARNING

The next reporter discussed about the cognitive learning, as the reporter defined cognitive learning, it deals within the field of psychology as being aware of current intellectuality such as knowing and thinking. When conscious judgments are being made within the brain, the process is described as cognitive. It is important to know the mental capability of a student so teacher may adjust and know what field the student in needed to be improved. We can also relate to our personal experiences which are related to the lesson so that the students could easily understand and comprehend. For me to be an effective teacher we must be a good classroom manager, provide direct and explicit instructions, keep the learners, ask appropriate questions, emphasize comprehension monitoring, learning-to-learn skills and small group and individualize instructions.

Lesson plan

The lesson plan is an important tool of a teacher, this is use to be his/her guide in teaching. The teacher needs this as a blueprint of what he/she intends to build-whether this be knowledge and information, skills, desirable habits and attitudes. The teacher may able to prepare what materials he/she may use, the  methods he/she may apply and how the teacher motivate her/his students.

CHARACTERISTIC OF LEARNING

The next topic we tackled is about the characteristic of learning. According to the reporter the characteristic of learning are fundamental, interactive and development. These three factors are essential in learning. The fundamental is the relationship existing between stimulus and responses, the interactive is the reaction of stimulus in the environment that learning is likely to occur and the development which involved physical and functional factors. There are also factors that can contribute to learning, these are drive and motivation, positive transfer that characterized by a carryover from one habit to another, the usefulness of materials this the significance of motivational and emotional materials, the number of sense involved and feedback or knowledge of results this is a important mechanism in the enhancement of learning, it serves reinforcement for the responses. The reporter gave some techniques on how to improve the performance in studying, these are the motivation to study, distributed vs. massed practice, recitation vs. reading, whole vs. part learning and organized study-routine. By practicing these techniques, the students may able to develop their academic performance.

Principle's of Learning

The next reporter discussed about the principles of learning. In order for us to be a good educator we must know the principles of learning where as we can find out how we can make the student understand their lessons. This principle focuses on how learner’s learning in the way that comforts them. It is easier for an individual to learn in her/his compatibility. Then the reporter stated the law of readiness which means being prepared to respond, these factor help an individual to be more responsible and building up confidence to compel. Afterwards, the reporter added the types of motivation and the principles of motivation. Motivation is very important thing in a student and one role of a teacher is to motivate them. Motivate them to achieve their goals in life despite of many difficulties, frustrations and obstacles. As a second parent we must let them feel that they can do it, it is not impossible. And last as a good teacher we must be open-minded, promotes flexible intellectual interest, will to learn and accept the responsibility of the consequences of one’s activity.

Functions of Teaching

    As what I understand to the report of Ms. Charity about the functions of teachings. As we teach we must do our best to make our students be the best among or to bring out the best in them, to develop, mold and establish their potentialities that they can be their assets in entering the new society in the community. She also explained the other types of learning which are, social learning which means that one learns with other people in the social environment in which he lives and observational learning which means one learns by watching other people’s behavior. The following are essential mechanisms of observational learning, attention, retention, ability to reproduce the behavior, motivation and reinforcement. She also added the laws of learning which helps us to attain our objectives to be a effective teacher or learner. She gave emphasis to the contemporary educational theories such as the Perennialism which calls for adherence to absolute principles, the Progressivism theory that asserts that change as a process of transformation is inevitable and enduring forces, and is the essence of reality, reconstructionism that aims that although the school itself has not taken a lead in social reform, it could corporate with movements already underway that advocated a more thoroughly realization of liberal educational reforms and cultural values. The essentialism theory that describes certain traditional concepts, ideals and skills should be taught methodically to all students regardless of individual abilities, interest and needs. Experimentalism and pragmatism. All these theries aims to improve the educational activities including the institution to construct a will discipline mind set and lawful behavior in teaching.

My Learnings

The previous week the reporter discussed meaningful learning theory. The said theory emphasis that the individual learns by relating newly acquired information to what the learner already knows. By the use of this theory we can be able to guide the learners to remember information that provide the basic building blocks for new learning experiences. The reporter also sighted other related views learning like Meta cognitive view of learning, Constructivist theories of learning and Reception and Discovery of learning theory. The reporter also explains the condition of learning regarding motivation. Motivation refers to the internal state or condition that influences behavior and gives direction in relation to physical conditions, interest, attitudes and aspiration. And as an educator we are the one who would motivate our student to pursuit what they want, to let them feel that they can do it and to let them know that the key to their success is just in their hands.

Our next reporter tackled about the characteristics of learning. According to him there are three (3) characteristics of learning namely: Fundamental, Interactive and Developmental. These three characteristic gives strong responses to the learners. The fundamental which is the question of knowledge by systematic study is basically a type of relationship existing between stimulus and responses. The interactive which is the assumption is that it is only when the individual reacts to the stimulus in the environment that learning is likely to occur. And the developmental who is concerned to growth and development involves physical and functional. He added also the factors that contribute to learning; these are Drive and Motivation, Positive transfer of learning, Usefulness of materials, the number of sense involved and feedback or knowledge. This all information’s are important in teaching. If we apply this in our teaching then we could be an effective educators and it is easier for us to adjust to the environment of the students or their behavior.

Learning

 The previous week we start reporting and what I’ve learned to their report? I learned a lot, the reporter discusses how a man learned and they also included the processes of learning. We found out that learning is an enrichment of experiences, an interaction of the environment with the organism and a lifetime process. The reporters also elaborate the theories of learning namely: Behaviorist theory, Organismic and Gestalt Field theories, Information processing theory and the nature of learning. Through this information we can determine the capability of a person to learn and understand why there are people who are slow learner and we may able to apply new technics in order for them to understand the lessons when we start teaching next semester.
